looking for info on power steering conversion

Has anyone done a power steering conversion using the 69-87 Chevy steering gear/pump and a mounting bracket like the one in the following website?

Hello Snags,

Here is a guy from another forum that sells an improved style mounting bracket. I used CPP but would have bought this one had I known about it.

The tough part is getting the double groove pulleys, but this conversion certainly has been done before.

Also getting the factory bracket is tough or you can fab one yourself.

Thanks for the info Funky61! So did you do this conversion on your 61? Did you have any issues? What type of truck did you get the steering box and pump from?

Yes I did this on the 61.
Issue I had was with the CPP bracket and others that make them like REZ. You have to drill some holes and one has to line up correctly so you can connect the plates. Using the one from Captain Fab I believe eliminates this extra plate.

I think I used a steering box from a 76 truck. I forget what year they switched to different style connectors for the steering pump; so having a matching set eliminates having to use adapters for the fittings. It's suggested that you get the steering box with PS pump so that they match.

If you are going to install disc brakes you may be better of buying a donor truck fot the complete frt end, power steering set-up and power brake stuff. front ends are not that difficult to instal. 73-87 and up to 91 on suburbans and crewcabs. get the steering box adaptor and the brake booster, master cyl adaptor from capt fab
