Part number help?

Does anyone have a late 60's parts book? I'm trying to ID part number 3896851 (might also be 3898851). I checked my 1960 book but the number doesn't exist yet.. Thanks in advance.

What is it? A casting number? A block? Cummins flywheel housing is all I can find.

Looks like an engine bracket. Here's a pic.

That's an A/C compressor/ engine mounting bracket.

Thanks Funky, do you know what year they started using that? I've seen a couple of factory 1966 A/C trucks and they don't have that bracket.

Re: Part number help?

I have one that I bought that was listed as a 67-72 application; assuming you had GMC V6 after 1969.

I have seen the 1966 variant with the Harrison style compressor, but it's mounted on the driver side high up.

The bracket you posted also incorporates the alternator too. It's a pretty sturdy unit.

Just for reference here is the 1966 unit you're speaking about.

This photo I borrowed thanks to GMCNUT's Original and highly optioned Fantastic Suburban Carryall on the forum elsewhere.

Seems to be a 60's AC bracket

Thanks Funky, that's the earlier one I was thinking of. I like the later one better; the early one looks homemade even though it's factory (a series of plates and brackets vs. a single cast piece). I guess GMC was improvising at first until they came up with a "normal" one..

Hi Ken yes I got it, was trying to verify what it was first. Good eyes!
