Oil filter container

Does the metal cylinder that holds the oil filter on a 305 v6 screw off to get to the filter? I've got the nut on the bottom loose, but I can't get the canister off.

The "nut" is really a long bolt up thru the can. The can is probably stuck on the seal. Just tap the can lightly with a rubber mallet, all around, and turn the can CCW and the bolt CCW and all will spin loose.

Thanks for responding. So when you say turn you mean it's threaded? And if it's threaded is it turned clock or counter clockwise?
Or when the bolts removed just tap it loose and it drops straight down

Re: Oil filter container

CCW= Counter Clock Wise. The can is not threaded, just probably stuck. I said turn the can CCW just so it does not retighten the bolt. The bolt is captive and spring loaded to the can and wants to turn with it due to that. Turning of the can is just to break it loose from anything binding it. Because bolt is spring loaded, (to up) it is somewhat difficult to see that it is loose from the threads in the housing if the can is still holding on to the housing/rubber seal. (Can edge embedded in seal a long time).
