1962 GMC 4x4 Fenderside - What do you see?

Finally joining the 6066 owners club! Just acquired a 62 GMC 4x4. Haven't taken possession yet but very excited. My family owned a 65 back in the day and I have wanted one ever since. Linking to some pictures and would like to get some advice from the experts on this site. Please take a look and tell me what you see - a lot of decisions to make about what to do to this truck once its physically in my possession.

Has a later model Inline 292 Engine. Original 4speed manual transmission. Runs and drives but needs a wiring harness, windshield and some other stuff before hitting the road.

Any thoughts or observations are appreciated! Link to pictures is below:

Hi and welcome aboard!!! Well, first off, I would be scouting out the correct year fenderside bed for it. You have a 67-72 bed on it, so I'd be looking for a 60-66 chevy or GMC bed. If you get a chevy bed then you'll just have to find a GMC tailgate. Then I would be swapping the 292 out for a big V6. Or if I kept the 292 I'd be doing modifications to it because that's something I love doing to them. lol Truck looks to be in Darn good shape and looks like it originally came with a 305 V6. Lotta people swapped out the v6 for a straight 6 because the straight 6 pulled faster, but nothing can beat the longevity of those big v6 engines. Adding more fuel and splitting the exhaust is one of the best things you can do to a V6. Anyhow! Whatever you decide to do will be a good plan.

Thanks. Noticed the tailgate wasn't a 62. What are the other differences in the bed that tipped you off that it was a 67+?

The fenders on the bed are a dead giveaway, they are particular to 68-72 trucks, same style as the 67 but 68-72 have the side maker lamps. Basically it is the same bed as 55-66 trucks but the holes for the fenders are stamped out for 67-72 fenders.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like just swapping out the fenders for 62 style isn't an option then.

Swapping out the fenders is definitely a possibility if the existing holes are welded up and filled, you will also need the proper steps to match the fenders.

60-66 is the same style so I'd be looking for a bed off anything of those years.
