Howdy!

I inherited a 1960 GMC 1500 via my granddad. It has sat in the same spot since last being licensed in 1992. Got it started up and running last month. Had to put in a new battery, replace the belt and hoses. Cab was full of rat and mouse stuff. No brakes to speak of, other than the parking brake. Looks like granddad needed a brake job well before he stopped driving it, judging by the grooves in the drums. Will need to be redoing the whole brake system. Needs an oil change. Will likely upgrade to an alternator.

Welcome to the forum, Dan! I see you've got the rare big back window and a relatively straight and rust-free cab. That's great that you're able to keep it in the family! Are you planning on keeping the flat bed, or looking for a pickup bed for it?

Going to keep it as a flatbed. Will probably be using it in the same fashion that granddad did here on the ranch.

That big back window is cracked. Will need to look into fixing that as well.The windshield does have some rust around the edges.

Welcome SDP45!

Nice history on your Grandas truck! Should be a fun project I'm sure.
Is that the original color?

Welcome aboard! Very nice that you are able to keep family history going. I still wish my family had an old truck for me to inherit. But one day my kids can inherit mine so I guess that will do. haha

Green is the original color. Here is a picture of my granddad, who was down at the barn watching the cows when some snot-nosed kid (me) showed up with a Kodak Instamatic and wanted to take his picture. This would have been around 1980.

I inherited my grandfather's 1965 GMC Custom Cab that he used for work in the fields of California for many years....it is a great feeling to be entrusted a truck with a lot of family history.

Congratulations!

Been trying to track down the 1966 and later spin on oil filter housing. I'm a bit lost in looking through the archives of this site about what to do with it when I get a hold of one. Will I need to get a bypass valve too? Looks like the housing is a direct bolt-on, so no issue there.

A few great albums here;

http://6066gmcclub.com/album.php?albumid=63

They should already have the bypass valve if it's a complete unit. If not I think one of those albums documents one being added as well as a gasket template.

You can post up in the WTB and also they come sometimes on eBay.
