16.5 tires are still being offered for trailers. The employer i now work for offers a 12.00-16.5 bias ply tire.

Yes, that is the 3 pieces rims that I also have on my pick up. My method works easier using the tire changer with the plate and blocks. I inflate on the changer with the plate on top and a bar kitty corner to it, just in case something decides to fly. Having changed regular split rims and the 3 piece units when I was in High School working at a service station, the 3 pieces are a better and much safer than the old two piece split to inflate.

Here is a source for 16.5 tires https://www.stausaonline.com/tires/sta-super-transport/

My one ton Suburban has had 16.5 inch wheels and tires on it since the late '60s. When my Dad turned it over to me in 2014 for the drive from Wichita to Oregon, it needed two new tires for the trip. I had no problem at the time finding new B.F. Goodrich 12.50 x 33 x 16.5 radial tires at a shop in Wichita.

i stand corrected. about 7 or 8 years ago a buddy of mine bought 4 new 16.5 tires from an old tire store, for the back of an old motorhome. he didnt make it 50 miles and 2 of them blew out. we tried to find 16.5 to replace, no luck. ended up finding 16 inch wheels and 4 new 16 inch tires. my normal tire warehouse, does not list any 16.5 tires, summit racing offers mud and off road tires. tire rack does offer a 16.5 tire. i checked bfg website, it says to call on 16.5 tires.
i would still recomend getting rid of the split rims and going to 16" tires, just to make future repairs. it will be alot simpler to find someone to fix a 16" inch tire than a split rim. weekend travel, have to get tire at walmart on sunday before. i'm sure they will not work on split rims. also finding a shop with cage will not be as easy as it used to be. most shops will turn down the job instead of buying a cage for a young kid to fix the tire with no expierance with split rims.
