New guy here!

Hey everyone, just thought I’d say hey. Definitely going to need a lot of advice restoring my new project. It’s a pretty beaten up 1964 gmc 1500 (I’m assuming that’s what it is concidered) has the 283 in it, about the only thing that works too! Four on the floor and a whole pile of rust! Hopefully it’ll be back on the road in the next four years or so.

She's got a good shell Trostan, and that's a start! Rust you can fix (the guys here can talk you through just about anything) but I'd be lookin at those springs and such to see how they "improved" it and squashed her down like that. Safety first!

How about some pics of the rust, the inside, and anything on her you think is pretty cool? (hood ornaments, radio, tailgate, etc).

edit: Hey wait, is that another long-stepper? Welcome to the club dude! :upyes:

She’s more rust than steel in most of the body. Needs front fenders, inner fenders, new floor pan, pretty much a whole new box lol. Definitely need a good look at the susprnsion, hoping to remove all of the front paneling and the box, and get started on it. No radio, nothing really unique that I can tell, besides being a 3/4 ton and having the optional v8. Definitely a long project!
And yep, nice 8’ fenderside, apparently they are “less desirable” which works well for me because that’s my preference! I’m hoping to some day be able to put the old girl back to some light work!

The fuel tank it toast, so the previous owner rigged a tank into the engine bay, gotta shut it off after every use or it gravity drains into the engine. Rads pretty rusty too, all the electrical will likely be replaced. No lights work though the horn does:welldone:

Engine fires right up, and idles alright once it warms up a tad. About the only thing that does work besides the 4spd, otherwise it never would have made it onto the car carrier!

Hoping to restore/mod a bit, power steering, disk brakes, a few other things, just to make it more practical. But I hope that’s about it!

I’m going to need a pile of tips on getting the engine running smoother, and I’m going to doing a crash course on body work!

Being that your GMC is a Canadian version it would not be a 1500 series rather a 910 series if it's a 1/2 ton or a 920 series if it's a 3/4 ton:upyes:

Thanks! It’s been hard to find some specific information. Trying to find parts compatability so I know what I can and can’t get.

USA models were quite a bit different, by 63 GMC got away from the rear coil spring suspension and went with rear leaf springs. No Chevy V8's were in the line up, it was all about the GMC 305 V6 and later the 351 V6. In 64 a standard engine was offered which was the Chevy 230 inline six making the 305E V6 a step up option.:ok:

I guess in the states this combination would be a bit more rare. I’m assuming Chevy had these options in the states though? I think I read on here that while American Chevy and gmc differ, Canadian gmc trucks are the same as Canadian Chevy, which are the same as American Chevy trucks lol. Couldn’t have made it easy!

That's pretty much it!

Welcome aboard! Luckily there's TON's of replacement or used panels out there to get that truck back to working order. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is holding it together. :teehee:
