Leaf spring ratings.

Hey everyone, new here and have aquired a 1966 gmc I believe 3/4 ton version. Just wanted to know what the leaf spring ratings are for 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton versions. I have a total of 10 leaf springs. However I can only find them in 8 leaf version for 3/4 ton. It's not much of a hauling truck anyways so will probably order from eaton in detroit and ask for an inch drop. But anyways looking to get to know everyone and learn from you guys. Thanks.

Welcome Simonsays!

Would enjoy some photos of your new Truck and as far as the spring rates go, all I found was this link for a 68 Canadian GMC...it'll give you a general idea.

Re: Leaf spring ratings.

Alright folks, a few things since I last posted. I have a 3/4 ton 1966 gmc long bed with a dana 60 in the rear leaf spring set up. Issues, I can't for the life of me find a website that sells for my set up. Even eaton springs does not list gmc. Does anyone have my set up and replace the rear leafs, from who did you buy from.

Also how many springs are supposed to be on the back? I for some reason have 10. Thank you guys for any help, 3/4ton is a pain to shop for.

i found a set on the website for general spring i believe will work. i have included a attachment shoeing the spring. you are saying you have a 10 leaf assembly, it may have an extra set of overload springs added to it. here is the website address for them: https://www.generalspringkc.com/

Any leaf spring manufacture should be able to build your spring. This is from the SRI Leaf Spring data manual V17. All they need are the first three numbers Stock no. 48-881, M.L. No 48-879 and your part number 2444869.
Eaton has this spring listed under CHEVY C20 67 68 .it’s the same as the GMC but the Chevy part number is 3920437
You live in Los Angeles ca. Here are some spring manufactures near you.
Its will save on shipping.

Re: Leaf spring ratings.

Thank you gmcjuniorvan, I was wondering if the 68 chevy fit but couldn't find anything on it. Also I see the one you highlighted is rated at 2750 with 10 leafs. Do you think it would make my ride a lot softer if I went with the 2000 lbs rating 7 leaf set up?

Re: Leaf spring ratings.

The Eaton 2000 spring has a lower spring rate so it should be softer. I would call Eaton and the other three spring shop and tell then what you’re looking for. I would not buy them online before you talk to someone.

Re: Leaf spring ratings.

Update, bought a set of eaton 2000lbs springs. I originally had 10 leafs which I believe to be 2750lbs springs. Went back to standard 2000 lbs leafs for 3/4 ton rating. Springs from eaton where nice, seemed well made. I went to install and the second spring from the top hits the shackle it being long. I don't think it is designed that way. Second was one.od the springs was a bit tweaked making it difficult to install. Buttoned everything up and did notice a nicer smoother more controlled ride over bumps. Now maybe it's in my head but truck seems to ride a tad lower then before, was supposed to be stock height. Just can't figure out if it's the fact the new springs are lower or the old heavy duty springs were actually higher then stock. Either way 90 % pleased with purchase. Now I noticed the front springs need to be replaced as well. Will go standard weight. The saga continues on these old awesome trucks. Thanks for listening.
