Dana 60 3.23 gears?
Anyone try out doc differential 3.23 gears for Dana 60 rear ends? I've noticed they are the only one I have seen offer it. I have a 66 gmc 1500 with a 4 speed granny tranny being pushed by a chevy 350 short block. Was looking for more hwy cruising speeds. Current gearing can pull a house but it screams past 50. Thanks

Re: Dana 60 3.23 gears?
I don't think the dana 60 will support a 3.23:1 gear set. I believe a 3.54:1 is the lowest you can go. The 3.54:1 is what I installed in my truck with LTX M/S2 LT235/85R16E tires. On the freeway I believe at 60 mph my rpm is around 2200.
By the way - We normally support GMC V6 engines and not the other brand. |

Bump to the top, has anyone tried these yet? They have them back in stock. I don't want to be the guinea pig, I just find it difficult to believe he is the only one to figure out how to get 3.23 gear sets when everyone else can only get 3.54 as the lowest.

Re: Dana 60 3.23 gears?
That ring gear would have to be very thin to function, in my opinion not possible (not enough room). It more likely for the Dana 70, cause a Dana 70 can go from a 3.07-7.17:1 ratio.

Not sure, I've been in contact with them and they stated it's just as strong as any other ring and pinion stock. His own personal specs and he has them made to those tolerance. He ran out but just got them back in stock. I just can't find anyone who is running them to get a review. |
Re: Dana 60 3.23 gears?
For what it's worth, I have a '60 GMC with a 305V-6 and a DANA 44 rearend; I had the factory 3.92 gears and dropped that down to a 3.23 back in 2012, at the time I had the OEM 4 spd. Hydramatic and no overdrive. The gear change made a WORLD of difference.
Since that swap, the transmission died, and I put in a 700R4 with overdrive. THAT was the ticket, I now turn 80mph at 1800 rpm, the big 305 V-6 LOVES this setup. |
