1962 Light Grey paint
 

I would like to do some touch up work on my truck. Like on the firewall where the reservoir has leaked, and my new outside mirror brackets. Can anyone give me an idea what is close in rattle can?
Most everything I see is a grey primer, even then the shades seem different.

You can get the right color put into a spray can, some automotive paint stores are actually set up to do that provided that they carry Acrylic Enamel mixes that can be applied without being catalyzed. What they will do is mix the paint to the formula that applies to the GMC gray and inject it into a spray can, yes it will be pricey compared to a generic color spray can but the quality of paint is 10 times better and the match will be closer to what you have from the factory. Another alternative is the do it yourself spray can that they may sell, it's usually an aerosol cartridge with a screw on container where you reduce the paint to the proper viscosity and it's ready to spray.

I already bought some that is close. I did some checking and there is an outfit called Color Rite that makes replacement colors for motorcycles, which I have used. Kind of expensive, but the color was right on the mark. I checked their site and they have an automotive outfit called Express Paint, I can supposedly get a duplicate color in aerosol for about $25.00 a can plus shipping. Not really that bad to get the correct color. Interestingly enough, they had color charts, product is available in touch-up pens to gallons.

Is there a serial number plate on this truck, can't seem to locate it. I wanted to check the paint code.

The gray that was used in 1962 would be PPG# 320035 called Pearl Gray

This brings up an interesting observation. On the Express paint site that I had previously mentioned, it list the grey paint for a 62 GMC as Georgian Grey. Out of curiosity I ran it as a 62 Chevy and the same paint came up. So did Chevys and GMC share the same colors and they were called something different, or were there 2 different colors?

Before 1964 GMC had a completely different selection of colors from Chevrolet, though some colors may resemble the other division's they are different. For instance in 1962 GMC used Delta Green which dated back to the mid 50's and Chevrolet used Woodland Green. Both were similar to a forest green, the Delta green had a brown cast while the Woodland green had a blue cast. If you were to find actual color charts from that era you would find a different selection between the two divisions. Like many instances presently many assume it was all the same thing for both divisions but that really didn't happen until 1969 when GMC completely took on all the same colors from Chevrolet. That is why it's important to have the right number code for the color.

The 1962 Chevrolet Georgian Gray has PPG# 32185, while the 1962 GMC Pearl Gray has PPG# 32035 so that indicates two different colors and formulas.
