11 pin round wiring on back of gauge cluster

So, I bought a replacement gauge cluster out of a 66 Chevy truck to install in place of my GMC 4000 gauge cluster as I found the former unattractive. Problem is don't know how to switch wiring over to the newer style...NOT a wiring guy! Is there a plug in existence that plugs in to the original 11 pin round connector and awitches to the more modern plugs for everything?

NO. You will have to cut and splice. PM me and I may be able to help you.

I have the same problem, so no adapter to go from this round plug no newer style after market gauges? So only option is to cut into harness and splice individually?

I wouldn't butcher up the OEM plug, that's for sure. Too few of them were made, it'd be like spitting on the Mona Lisa and using the Constitution to wipe your butt.

You can just get a few wires though, add plugs to them that'll fit in the OEM GMC sockets, plug them in there and into the Chevy part and it'll work great. This preserves the OEM plug for posterity and also allows you (or whomever owns it after you0 to revert back to the OEM gauges in the future.

thanks, my truck didn't come with the factory instrument panel. I'll work on some sort of adapter using bullet style plugs to go into the round dash panel adapter. Thanks for the advise, I'm glad I have options to keep it intact.

Cal, I had a 1960 GMC. Those round connectors plug into a printed circuit, as you know. The Chevy's don't have that as far as I know. I don't remember how my harness was constructed or reconstructed over the years. You seem to have a connector upstream of that round one. If that is a mated male/female connector. Disconnect them and post several well lit pics of the mated connector and the halves. I can then possibly advise a mate for the round connector side of that connector or a way to wire to it without major cut and splice. Leave all of your harness untouched.
Post lost of pics at a proper distance to see the whole thing. Not far away pics. Not super zoom.

FYI: Aftermarket gauges are not usually compatible with 6066 senders. Gas, temp, pressure. Wiring may also change a little if a person goes with a internally regulated alternator and a voltmeter.

Of course, being a dedicated 6060GMCCLUB we would recommend finding a GMC gauge cluster. That is the first answer.

In the harness picture there is another connector about 10-12 inches away. Separate this connector and take a picture of both half showing the pins. Also any markings on the connectors. Might be able to find a mate to it. Then you might be able to make your own adapter.

James, it would be a good idea to read the responses from others. You are posting the same thing already said.
Maybe that's where you got the idea :lolflag:
