If I recall correctly, I was told it would have been a 5 speed, but I am not sure. Were they five speed, or six?

The plan back then, was to put it into my RM7500 'Motorhome', along with a 478M; to replace my 401M and the 5x2 Manual transmission. No progress yet, on that plan.

Allison (under GM) made 4, 5 and 6 speed automatics. The first ones were the MT (Medium Truck) series (30 and 40). They were all six speeds, direct in top gear, and date to the mid 1950's and were produced into the early 70's

Re: stuck 478

Soo it looks like I have a flywheel coming for the 478!!
Now I gotta go dig it out, it drifted to the end of the projects line.
Its so far back, there are not even lights (the shop lights are on the project line as well).

I got the flywheel this weekend, but didn't get around to putting it on until today. Actually its temporarily in place till I find some 1 3/4 bolts, or cut the 2' down.
I hope this is the way it bolts on I don't deal with automatics much. It was a bit confusing to have starter gear wear on both sides of the flywheel and no threaded flex plate mounts.
I got the rusty freeze plugs out and did a little cleaning.
(The red valve cover is off of the 3500 project)
I have a pretty long list of things that need to be taken care of before I fire it up, but its on its way!
