Wheels and Tires for 1966 GMC 1-ton

Good afternoon,

I am looking for recommendations on replacement wheels for my 1966 1-ton. It is currently sitting on the original tires and Split Rim wheels. Understanding that most tire shops will not touch the split rims, what have others done. I have looked at some options, but thought I would ask around.

Thanks

GE

I picked up a set of 16" steel factory rims for my 64 1500. They came off of an 82 GMC 2500 pickup truck because of the six lug nuts and being converted to disc brakes.

Thanks, mine is still the 8 lug wheels and I would like to keep the original drive train.

I had the same problem with my '63 3/4 ton GMC. No one wanted to put new tires on the split rims or even remove the old tires.

After flailing around for a year I ended up spending money and bought Wheel Vintiques wheels (WVI-82-660804) and LT225/75R-16 General Grabber HD E
tires and got it over with. Most definitely not cheap, but it looks pretty OEM and it's safer and they work well. The radials make steering at low speed easier than the old bias ply tires too.

There may be better/cheaper options for used stuff but I didn't find what I wanted doing that.

When I got my '60 1500 in 1970, it had 17.5" stock solid rims.
GMC apparently didn't know which trucks had which and offered me free replacements for 16" split rims and tires.
The replacement campaign went on for several years and I am not sure when or if it stopped.
Since it was considered a severe safety hazard, I wonder if the offer might still be valid with enough prodding. Worth a try.

FWTW, nice, but expensive, 17.5 tires are still available

I looked at those wheels, but they don't look appropriate for the rear duals. Any ideas for duals?
