Freightliner was startedby the old trucking company Consolidated Freightways. Consolidated wanted trucks built to their own specifications, a very light cabover design. Other operators became interested in Freightliner trucks, and Consolidated decided to manufacture and sell the trucks to whoever wanted them. Freightliner did not want to open their own truck dealers and deal with warranty, etc., so they entered into an agreement with White Truck to handle sales and service. The deal with White lasted until 1977.
