Default Re: '65 GMC 1500 project. From the Netherlands

Funny how time flies...
The stainless steel exhaust has been moved to future projects. Really wanted to get the truck back on the road as I have barely driven it the last 2 years.
Plus the dual exhaust that I welded up sounds pretty good and should last me a long time. Be a waste to replace it now.

Decided to put the truck back together and redo the grille and bumper. Also paint the rims (ie. all the parts that need to be painted ivory white)

Started by sandblasting the rims. I checked them for runout in the lathe as I know one of them wasn't straight. One did indeed not check out. I corrected it in the shop press.

Epoxy primer was next, followed by a 2 component paint I had made to the color I wanted. They supply spray cans that utilize a separate compartment inside that needs to be pierced prior to use to mix the hardener in the paint.
Anyway, I really like the stuff. It lays down really nice.

The bumper and grille I sanded down and shot them again in epoxy primer, followed by the same spray paint.
Everything turned out really nice and it really changes the look of the truck for the better.

I also refinished the hood hinges using Eastwoods Zinc phosphate paint, this replicates the factory finish.
I am having trouble keeping the hood to stay open unfortunately.

Bodywork is fun once you get the hang of it and find something that works for you. But it is still tedious. But laying down a perfect layer of paint makes it worthwhile.

Now painting a whole truck is a different undertaking. I still have to finish the rust repairs first. I'm getting the front end aligned tomorrow. Have been driving it the last few days and I'm having a blast again.

I want this truck to be an enjoyable daily driver, not a trailer queen. Use it what's it intended for. But take care of it of course.

With a month or 2 I'm leaving for Alberta, Canada again. I was there last year as well for a couple of weeks and really enjoyed it there. They can use my help as a mechanic and a schoolbus driver (GMC Bluebird). And I'm very happy to do so!

I thought of shipping over my beloved GMC but it's too expensive for only a year. If I end up moving there I'll be sure to ship it over though.

I'll find another old pickup there to fix up for the time being, haha.
