Default Fan and Fan Clutch Question

With carburetion, exhaust system, brake system, and bed replacement (plus a few less time consuming repairs) done, I have started working on the cooling system in my 64 GMC 1500 pickup with a 305E V6 engine. Can someone tell me if I can use a clutch driven fan to replace the stock solid set fan? The truck does not have any overheating problems and, in fact, takes a long time to come up to normal temperature, so the reasons I am thinking about this are noise reduction and better fuel economy. Rockauto lists a fan clutch for my truck and lists a fan that fits the same clutch for a 1964 GMC G1000, but I can't tell if there would be any clearance problems in the 305E engine setup. I would like to have some idea about what will work before spending about $50 to find out the hard way.
