Dual thermostats are common on the larger trucks. I am pretty sure you can bolt the intake on backwards on any V-6. As for Flexible buses, it probably came out of a Clipper, they were quite common in the 50's and 60's. They were built in gasoline and diesel versions and most of the gasoline powered Clippers had Buick straight 8's in them. This was even after Buick introduced the 'Nailhead' V-8 in their cars. Swapping the Buick with a GMC V-6 was very common, I think either Flxible of GMC had a kit to do so. I have a friend with a GMC V-6 repowered Flxible, I will ask him which way the carburetor is installed.
