When I bought my first truck, a 1961 1500, it had a car 3 speed floor shifter. The guy I bought it from was short, but the throw on the shifter kept it so low to the floor that the seat had to be all the way back to get it into gear. Shifter was also pretty worn, you had to exaggerate the shifting, if you tried to just shift it "normally" it would often get stuck and I'd have to crawl under it and try to get it back out of gears. I finally got sick of it and fabricated a mount that put most of the mechanism above the floor... then got a top loader 4 speed and never missed that old 3.
