Back in the 1970s, I myself was guilty of defacing GMC doors by cutting holes for stereo speakers. Since car stereos weren't available until 1969 according to
https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...-of-car-radios, it's highly unlikely a dealer would have installed your door speakers. Today I wouldn't dream of cutting a hole in a door like that.
For a quick "repair" you could cover the holes with lower door carpets like some of the aftermarket vendors sell. They make matching pieces for the kick panels too.
