Dennis,
Do you have an photo's. Do you have this tach drive on the back of your block, by the distributor? If you do then I'd think it would work.

My 305A has the Holley and dual exhausts with stock ignition.
The V6's make their torque down low. I think the peak torque is around 1600rpm's for my 305. I shift around 1500-25--rpm's (like you mentioned for the tachometer); sometimes lower and sometimes higher it just depends. The green range is your cruising range. Don't exceed or go into the red range or you'll break something.

I have overdrive, so at 65mph my tachometer shows 17000+/-rpms (peak torque range) and it will continue to pull, if I get into it. I've yet to do a real mileage run, but it is improved. Best guess is 14-16mpg
