Got it all finished. I used the cpp accelerator kit, but the rod was a bit too short, so I went to home Depot and picked up a replacement rod , re-threaded one end and use the cpp trans shift end. Although the upper end fell perfectly straight from the trans, I felt I needed a bit more to secure the rod from slipping. Soni drilled two holes on the rod above and below the lock nut and put in 2 cotter pins.. think belt and suspenders approach.
