Default 1965 GMC 230 3.8L Short bed project

Hello!

Just got this new truck and I feel like I am way over my head. Want to keep the patina on it and just get it going. Hasn't been run for ten years, or so they said. Needs a lot of work and I will be asking some questions down the road. New user here from Vista, CA. Hope to do it justice.

Not that I am aware of. Vin tells me it's from Fremont. I don't know much of anything about the truck though. Was just going off the vin info.

Most likely it was a 230 inline six truck converted to a V8 at some point.

Hi lwrdrhvn!

Welcome to the forum! Restoring a classic is a lot of work and dedication, but with some determination you should be just fine. An original 305 V6 engine will cost around $200-$400, but the swap is an easy one for the mechanically inclined. The welding may need to be professionally done if you haven't any experience.

Thankfully the 60-66 GMC trucks were simple, hard working machines that were designed with the farmer in mind. This means quick in the field repairs were at the forefront of the design process. You only need a set of screwdrivers, a few wrenches, a crowbar and a hammer to fix or replace almost anything that may go wrong.

Enjoy your new project and keep us informed!

-Jeannie
