I have a 1963 gmc 1500 pickup with a 305 v6. How hard to change the crankcase ventilation element?

Assuming you mean the dry filter unit, it should just twist off. Here is a link to some photos and a complete unit removed; which is good to know, but not necessary for filter change.

Remove valve cover first, unscrew top of can remove old filter replace with new. I found out that it was almost impossible to open without first removing valve cover. Hope this helps.
