			Hello, I am having some difficulties with identifying the transmission that is bolted up behind my d478 engine. The transmission has bad bearings so I'm looking to replace it. I am pretty sure the transmission is an np435 Due to the inner gear structure and the outside layout. Apparently the shifter is from a Ford I also know that the GM bolt pattern for the np435 is unique. I would like to know what was installed behind the d478, and does anybody know of a company that makes an adapter plate For this transmission to a nv4500 or any 5 speed varient?

			I have attached photos of the trans and bellhousing. The input shaft has 6 1/2" stick out with a 1 1/8" 10 spline shaft with bellhousing mounting holes approximately 8 1/4" wide on top, 9" wide on bottom. 4 3/4" right side and 5" left side. |

			Hello Murdoc, Novak has lots of information here;

			https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledg.../manual/np435/ and a mention of using a Ford version NP435 without an adapter here; https://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/...gm/ford-to-gm/ NV4500 adapters or information https://www.advanceadapters.com/cate...r-packages/79/

			I have read that page a few times actually, the main issues that I find are the ford np435 claims a 1 1/16" shaft and mine measures 1 1/8". Also under the GM /Chevrolet version it states "None of the GM NP435's are compatible with our adapter assemblies." making me think it has a different bolt pattern, given the photo of the bellhousing from your 2nd link and my own bellhousing, I think that bottom right bolt is different at least.

			I see now that it says you can drill the hole to match, sorry I missed that before. |

			I wonder if one of these from V12 would work to get you the transmission you want?

			As much as I would love to throw a v12 in, there's not much info on the transmissions used other than "Chevrolet trans" that I could find.

			What transmissions were used for the Toro-flow diesels? Was it the sm420's?

			I was thinking if that adapter from the V12 website would bolt up to your Toroflow, then you'd have more options on the transmission.

			I do not know if the Toro's have a unique-to-them bell housing.

			Same, honestly I'm not even sure if the diesel / gasoline versions of this engine have different bellhousings. I can't even be 100% that this is the original combo for this motor. I haven't been able to find anyone else talking about a np435 on a Toro-flow. I was also thinking I could just try for an overdrive system for the np435 but it's expensive

			Not sure if this would help, but my 478 Gas had a 5-Speed Clark.

			I doubt a Toro-Flow would have an SM-420. Also a Toro-Flow was a Gas Engine that was made to be a Diesel. Should be the same Block to accept a typical trans.

			Don’t know much about the 478, but I’ve removed a few 351s from grain trucks out here and they’ve all been running the NP540 (no overdrives) and 1 1/8” 10 spline inputs in the standard style bell housings. I’m sure they’d handle the power of 478 but only have 1:1 final gear.

	Just throwing that out there |
