Default V6 on cragslist nearby, worth it?

Searching craigslist and found a 351 V6 with transmission nearby, about a 2 hour drive in my duece and half to pick it up. He's asking 500, like to have it if even to save it. Dunno it's condition, is it worth the 500 as is?

Also found a fire truck with a 478 V6, here is the link, http://westmd.craigslist.org/cto/3534843462.html

Any thoughts on the 351 please post, Jeremy Cooper, Winchester Va

In my opinion, $500 for a 351E with a transmission is a fair price as long as the engine has been stored out of the weather and turns over (not stuck). Just for comparison, I sold a 351E to another member for $500 several years ago who then proceeded to spend about $2000 on a rebuild.

On the other hand, I've taken three 351s (and two 305s) to the scrap yard recently because they were in my way and couldn't sell them locally. But I've still got another 351 and a 379 which I'm keeping.

351E yes, 351C only if running.

That Firetruck in the Craigslist ad looks like a good deal, especially if you like Cab-Overs. I like the fact that it has Air Brakes.

The 351 sounds good especially if it runs good, and maybe he would take less?

Jolly, what would be the negative of a "C" compared to the "E"? I always known the "C" to be more of a commercial engine.

The 351E is a Magnum engine, the 351C is not, but if it runs it would be worth the $500, if not likes more than likely to end up scrap so why pay more then scrap price.

The Magnum parts are worth the price as they can be bolted to a non-Magnum engine as an upgrade.

It is a 351C. If my wife will let me spend the money, I'll give him a call and see if it's running. My grandfather had a big GMC flatbed 64-66 with a V6. Its was still around a few years ago. I am gonna try and track it down.
