Great article. Wish it was about 2 pages longer with more details though.

There is a mis-print near the end of the article, where it mentioned the V-12. It states the V-12 shared several internal parts with the 305. That's incorrect. It shares the internal parts with the 351. 351 X 2 = 702. Also, gross torque 630 @ 2400 and SAE gross hp 275 @ 2400rpm. I looked in my original service manual to make sure this is right.

Interesting article, I'd like to see and drive one of the new up-dated 305s. That little motor is putting out almost as much as the 12s. I'm sure it's a lot more fuel effecient, too. Amazing of what the automotive engineering has done the last 47 yrs.

Thanks for posting.

I like that "Family Portrait" of all the engines together.

Too bad the new engine is just the old Small Block V8 with 2 cylinders looped off.

Great photo at the end showing the engines that came out in 1960.

Jolly, the new 4.3 V6 is an entirely new engine and not just the old smallblock with 2 cylinders lopped off. Do some research and you will find out that the new line up of 2014 GM trucks have as well a completely new generation of engines and the only thing these engines share with the previous engines is the displacement. It has definitely been time to retire the old 4.3 V6 since it's basic design is from an engine that was introduced nearly 60 years ago.

Really? That is interesting. Sorry I did't do my home work Pete, I'll ban myself to the books for the next week...

After reading about the new engines I will most certainly have to take one for a test drive when they hit the showrooms. I agree the article was short, but sweet, and any info getting out to the public is a good thing even if the numbers might have been a little off.
