Gear reduction Starter
Has anyone had any success in finding or adapting a Gear Reduction Starter to one of the 305s?? The header fabrication is going well but the rear pipe on the pass side is going to be ~ 1" from the hot terminal and even though the headers will be Jet Hot coated I am concerned about effects the heat will have. I can wrap with thermal tape but then may run into shorting out issues. JIm Hyde, Phx AZ

Re: Gear reduction Starter
Try www.transmissionadapters.com. Bendtsen's makes automatic transmission adapters for the GMC V6 & V12 and also has a gear reduction starter for these engines. Bendtsen is listed on Jolly's site.

Re: Gear reduction Starter
This is an adapter on mine with mini starter. I wrapped the starter with heat
shield and ss band. I also ran a 4-6 awg wire from the battery. My headers are on the outside of the frame. It still gets plenty hot. That's why I did the shield. Mine is on a v12. The crank adapter is basically the only difference. I did run a ground from the starter to the frame. Rob, Wisc |

Re: Gear reduction Starter
Did you machine the adapter plate yourself and what part number of mini starter did you use? If you did build the adapter yourself, can you expound on the dimensional specifics?

Re: Gear reduction Starter
No I did only some of it afterwards. It is a Bendtsen adapter. It
is not designed for a motor mount and for the original tach cable. The tach cable is not a big thing. Just put a regular tach in. The motor mount is a big thing, because you do not have a bell housing. So that I did machine and dream up. That little starter does make people scratch there heads. It just spins my V12 like nothing, so I am sure it can make your V6 happy. If you look in a Summit, or like place, you would be amazed they can turn up to a 18:1 compression ratio. |
