Default Weird seat -- help!

This was in an early 60's Suburban. The driver's side of the usual 60/40 bench was removed and replaced with this seat. I've never seen one like it before -- does anyone recognize it? Maybe one of the old-timers knows... Wondering if it's treasure or junk!

Some kind of torsion bar springing arrangement? I have never seen one like it before.
