Default 6 Or 12 Volt System

Hi,
I am new to your forum and I just purchased a 1965 k 1000. my question is that I was told it has a 6 volt electrical system is this true, and how hard would it be to make it a 12 volt system. Any help would be appreciated THANKS

Gosh I would think 12v for sure, I have never seen any GM product from the 60's that is 6 volt. Welcome from the Black Hills!

Welcome to the club, Mr. Happy 65! Your truck is equipped with a 12 volt system. I don't think GM had anything in a 6 volt electrical system on trucks produced after 1954 if memory serves me correctly. I could be wrong on the last year of 6 volt systems, but I think I'm pretty close on my estimate.

Hi George, My '55 GMC 2nd design is 12 volt but I have been told it is supposed to be a 6 volt truck before too!-LOL! All I can prove is that a friend gave me a GMC clock and it is labled and dated. Since it is dated August '55 I imagine it could be for the 1956 model year but who knows. It doesn't work but I installed it and set it to 5'oclock--it's 5 O'clock Somewhere? right?-LOL!
