Re: 87 VS 63... Hard choice.
The '67, '68, and '69 trucks do have basically the same V6 in them as the '60 to '66 series. The 305E was the standard V6 in them, with the 351E the optional V6. The 351E first became optional in the light duty trucks in 1966. GM dropped the V6 from the light duty trucks half way through the 1969 model year. That's when the Chevy and GMC trucks became the same truck except for the obvious trim differences.

Re: 87 VS 63... Hard choice.
Of the 67-72 body style GMC pickups only the 67-69 were available with the V6, you could get the V6 from 70-72 as a dealer installed option. In the future if you can't find one with the V6 you can always convert one over and do even better with a bigger cubic inch version like a 401M.

Re: 87 VS 63... Hard choice.
Awesome, thanks! i've been respond with tapatalk, but my phone apparently didnt post for some reason, the 67 and 69 years are my two favorites of that generation. perhaps i'll end up with one of those before i find a '63, but we will see as time goes on.
do you have any experience with the 305 V8's i've seen some builds claiming 25 mpg on jalopy with a 600CFM holly (I thought 400 was about all you could really pull off): To view some links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Maybe you should introduce yourself with a new topic? do you think that with new gaskets and a better carb (has a cheap edelbrock 4 barrel on it) as well as headers and possibly exhaust that it could get decent MPG? or would that kill the mpg on it? it doesn't need to be amazing, but i'd like to take it on smaller trips and not getting 8 mpg would be great

Re: 87 VS 63... Hard choice.
With a little finagling I got a brand new dune buggy now to sell / trade for a truck, so far someone offered a 1977 2wd Chevy long bed and cash, hopefully someone will either have cash or a batter offer, but if none have come by in the next month I'll take the offer (he won't have it for a month). Until then I have this sitting in my garage:

Believe it or not, these things retail for $2500 and ship incomplete as a base mod, and this 'lil guy has all the Doo-dads and bells and whistles. Either way, I'm one step closer. Re: 87 VS 63... Hard choice.
So as of today the deal is set, I am the new owner of a 1966 C20 pickup, I know it's not a GMC, but at least now I have a good truck and I can take my time looking for the right GMC for me.

It's not a gmc, but for the investment, it's a worthy winter project for now.
