Default 1966 GMC Stakeside

Just starting on getting my recent purchase back on the road. It is a 1966 GMC 1-ton with only 9800 miles. Odd story and a bit confusing story. Body is straight, NO rust and all original wood in the stake bed. Some of the wood stakes will need to be replaced, as will the wood in the bed.

Had to replace the gas tank and fuel sending unit to get it running. The tank was full of rust and easier to replace than to clean. I need a carburetor kit to improve how it runs.

More to do.

Nice truck.

I had the exact same truck, but in a Chevrolet.

One of the best trucks I've ever owned.

Yeah, nice truck. I see you found one w power steering and a dry air cleaner. Would be interested to know how the miles were soooo low.
Good luck w it!

Sorry for the really really sloooooow response. I have been traveling a bunch and busy.

I don't know why the miles are so low. I was told that the Dealer kept it in his show room long after 1966 and then the guy I bought it from put it in a barn. Unfortunately, a barn in Mississippi with humidity. Lots of surface rust and rotten wood in the bed. I hope to get some work done over the holidays. My son will be home from college, so I will have some help.
