This engine doesn't look right, for my light duty truck? Just for fun...
Saw this engine and it threw me off...
Do you see what looks odd and explain why?

Carburetor backwards? No idea why.

That is correct Ed, the carb is backwards!
This engine was said to have come out of a Flxible Bus. I read they used various powertrains but an interesting fact I discovered was that the engine was in a cradle on rails, that could be extended out for service or change out. I also wonder if the intake manifold is reversible or it had a carb base that was designed for flipping around. It looks like a magnum engine as well. Quick eyes Ed and thanks for playing the game.

It was probably for something big like an earth mover equipment (noting the dual thermostats). Their throttle linkage may require something different. Just my guess.

Dual thermostats are common on the larger trucks. I am pretty sure you can bolt the intake on backwards on any V-6. As for Flexible buses, it probably came out of a Clipper, they were quite common in the 50's and 60's. They were built in gasoline and diesel versions and most of the gasoline powered Clippers had Buick straight 8's in them. This was even after Buick introduced the 'Nailhead' V-8 in their cars. Swapping the Buick with a GMC V-6 was very common, I think either Flxible of GMC had a kit to do so. I have a friend with a GMC V-6 repowered Flxible, I will ask him which way the carburetor is installed.
