Default '61 GMC Panel Van resurrection on Youtube

A couple of videos I found on YouTube:

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO6pnQ0TY04

Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HdCU2ADB7U

He gets it running first and drives it in the second video. The V6 starts right up and it produces a nice rumble in the driving video.

He says he has more plans for the truck, at least getting the brakes fixed etc. Needs a ton of rust repair though.

Hope you enjoy.

Thanks Prowbar,

I really enjoyed that link. That is a huge panel truck and I'm glad he got to rescue it. I noticed that the gas tank was placed right behind the driver-side door, so I hope he shows later on what that tank looks like.

Looked like a lot of fun getting it running and driving it too. I look forward to the next video.

I only saw the improved bottle tank he used, was wondering where the gas tank is located on these.

These panel vans must be a pretty rare sight nowadays? Especially an early one like that?

Glad you enjoyed it.

The gas tank is located between the frame and the outer sheet metal, under the floor behind the front seats. My Dad actually installed a twin on the other side of his for a total of 40 gallons. See One Ton Suburban at https://6066gmcclub.com/showthread.p...t=Ton+Suburban for more info on these 20' long trucks.

Thanks for sharing the video links.

Ed, I noticed those chrome T-Handles mounted to the top of the front fenders of your Panel. What purpose do they serve?

When Dad had owned the one ton for about a year, Henry, he became more and more concerned about how the hood seemed to move around at highway speeds. Coincidentally, I just came across his receipt from 1966 a couple of days ago from the Jeep dealer in Wichita. He bought those hood hold-downs from their parts department and installed them on the Suburban. It gave him a lot of peace of mind that the hood wouldn't fly up unexpectedly.

you dont see many panels, glad to see him reviving this one. i like the small windows on the rear. i have a 61 chevy panel it doesn't have the windows, and the fuel fill is behind the rear tire. did all gmc panels have the fill in front of the wheel?
