brake booster for a '65
I'm having problems getting an accurate brake booster for my '65 fleetside. I've looked at all the usual suspects, found some but with different brackets, all rebuilt.
Any resources would be appreciated... |

Re: brake booster for a '65
Just a idea for you to hard around - get rid of the single fruit jar master cylinder and install a dual - circuit for front brakes and circuit for rear brakes - FIRST and foremost is for safety reasons - reason is with a single circuit if you lose a brake line you lose all brakes - with a dual circuit you would only lose the front or rear. So forget about searching for a single and look for a dual. Cars/Trucks manufactured after 1966 in the U.S. was required to be dual circuit. This is the first upgrade I do on any project - get that JIMMY to stop always.

Ronn:
Have you checked rockauto.com? They show a cardone rebuild no 5473535 for $67 that looks like yours. Hope that helps. Regards Steve New Orleans |

Re: brake booster for a '65
I am doing that exact upgrade and GMC mounting to the fire wall is different than the ones they sell for chevrolet. The GMC has 3 countersunk fasteners where as the chevrolet they have 2 existing bolt holes and you have to drill 2 more. My question is do they make an adaptor bracket with the 3 countersunk holes

Re: brake booster for a '65
thanks everyone, could use some more input... I appreciate the reconmendation of double jars, right now I'm just returning it to stock. I can add the double jars later. Biggest issue is the bracket being horizontal, (i suppose i can use the existing bracket and replace the unit alone? Does it matter if unit turns sideways or not as long as the Jar is verticle?
On a side note, how hard would it be to refurbish myself? Haven't seen any rebuild kits anywhere though |
