Re: 1960-66 GMC Paint Chips
Hey Jon,and thanks. Ah yes, color choice. I have witnessed my dad save money by buying the ugliest truck on the lot. More than once. And he never bothered to paint over the ugly paint, as that would eat his savings. I have seen a few pictures of build sheets from 6066 GMC trucks. They show color(s). Minus an original to the truck build sheet, I guess you can correctly change the color of one of these trucks without a hitch. Here is how I justify this mentally, but know that this is all subjective. Since the truck does not bear a stamped code for color, you have no code to break, so to speak. If I had a like new 60 GMC ,but hated the color, or it just needed a repaint, I would consider changing the color. I would probably not do so on a stamped color coded vehicle, on general principle. With the lack of a stamped code, GMC trucks would not break this general rule of thumb if there colors were changed. And I would change it to a GMC numbered paint taken from a same year paint color chip set. I would not sweat doing this. You still are technically correct for the year, you get a color you can live with, chosen from correct factory original color choices. Win Win. I am very lucky in that the truck I have had the Cape Blue/Olympic White from day one in 1959. If it had been a color I do not favor, I would have chosen Cape Blue for the Two-Tone job. This color combo screams 1959-60-61. And it is a soothing combination, on the eye. Most of the 60 colors are cool to me, but there are a couple I might have to flip. Thanks, GM
