Hi Carla, you're looking well, no big snake this time! Now with the pic I have a theory on that step, besides a convenient place to set a beer. Out here a lot of ranchers and farmers used to put their trucks in granny and then climb into the box while the truck is moving from the cab. I think that's a higher running board for a step to get from the bottom running board into the box. The fields were big and fairly unobstructed enough to allow those folks to do some chores alone.
Here's why mid to later 50's trucks have an advantage over those earlier ones with the angled boxes---LOL! DAC
