Nice truck, and a good story. Like hearing about 'family' trucks. BTW-In addition to my '67, I have spent quite a bit of time working on an FP45. Something about old GM products...... Best of luck to you, you will find a lot of good advice here.

Thanks Bob. I've learned a lot just by plowing through the archives.

Welcome to the Club SDP45, I use to drive a Dually Pickup with SD45T-2 on the plate.

I be watching for photos of your Truck next to some classic trains when you get it on the road.

I just did the oil filter housing swap this spring, the bypass valve should be in the housing you find when you remove it from the engine of the donor truck.

Look in the Builds/Journals section for the info I posted in my 1965 GMC 3500 Rescue Squad thread, Page 8, I posted some photos, keep in mind my truck is a little bigger than yours, so I had a little more room to work in. I made the gasket myself before installing the housing.

I'm more of a GN/BN SDP45 fan and a railroad historian for my part of the state.

Thanks for the tips about the oil housing.

Did some say...RailRoad?

Been my love since I was born. Wouldn't say I am a historian, but I have read through a good many books on rr history. Man is it neat! Hope to work at BNSF one day. Favorite part has been collecting HO and G scale trains. Mostly fascinated by the Big Boy, Challenger, and Shay engines.

Wrote a little book about my area:

Looks great, reviving these old trucks is great. I was in a speed shop today and there were 2 old trucks one 1956 ford and a 1964 GMC, it was a V-6 but someone changed it to a V-8. When I told them I was finishing a V-6 they both said that they never saw one and they are coming over to see it Saturday. Nice seeing all these old trucks coming back to life again. John

What I hate the most is when people replace the v6 with a v8 and leave the v6 emblem on. They must be ashamed. lol
