OK, so General Motors in a North American automobile manufacturer with plants and lots of satisfied customers in Canada; it is not the opposite - a Canadian company with lots of satisfied customers in the U.S. so if your view is that GM vehicles are superior to that of Canadian auto makers then yes, you can add GM vehicles to the list of things the U.S. seems to be the world leader in.

GM decided that for cost reasons among other things, that it would borrow from the Chevrolet division its cabs, bodies and frames & drivetrains to use as GMC models in Canada. Guage clusters and dashes are all Chevrolet design from the 50's and 60's. Eaton rear ends instead of Dana's, coil springs vs leafs - every difference between the two makes had between them here basically. the GMC name was added to badging, instruments cluster bezels, etc but the trucks were indeed mostly Chevrolet in Canada. No Pontiac V8's in Canadian 55-59 trucks either so same story there.
it is like to the americans that the super bowl is a world championship when the only teams that play in it are american, sort of ironical isn't it.
GMC and Chrevrolet bodies come out of the same stamp whether canadian or us. canadian gmc have the same dash.instruments and bezels as the us ones do. the frames are identical. the only difference again is the engines, the same as you have stated for the 55-59 light duty trucks

Ron I'm pretty sure it's common knowledge that Canadian GMCs were built as a chivvy copy instead of a true GMC. It's not a dis, its just fact. They were built with chivvy parts because that was whats handy.

I find it odd that GMC V6's with a manual transmission need a bell housing adapter! My 68 KM2500 has a bell housing ( part number 643191) bolts directly to the engine block and the illustration in my GMC parts book confirms it. In fact all my parts books for larger series show the same illustration including the larger bell housing part number 696559 or 696561. Over the years I've bought several GMC V6's ranging up to the 478 with bell housing and one that came with an adapter housing because it had an Allison automatic behind it.

did I say manual trans. I believe that I said a/trans which is usually an abbreviated version standing for automatic transmission.

there is a book called the silver book which list all of the vendors for addition GM stuff
