Question Updating Seats

I'm sure at least some of you guys have put in the newer 2000'ish seats with integrated seat belts into your 4-5-6. If so, what were the results, pros/cons of installation; especially if you have the in cab fuel tank?

I got a good deal on 2000 Chevy 40/20/40 seat with the shoulder belts...to make my spouse happy with the little riding in the truck. Happy wife, happy life!

I'm obviously going to be drilling some holes, but would like to tap into the expertise here before diving in. Besides it's raining.

Usually I would say keep it original and recover maybe add a 1/2" to 1" memory foam for added comfort but a good set of seats makes the cruise more about the cruising. I replaced mine and had to relocate and replace the gas tank to the rear between the frame. Easy done with a flat bed dump.

pros: comfortable, integral seat belts and shoulder harness

cons: seat backs are very thick, if you are like me and have a little belly it takes up too much room,

my decision: move the fuel tank out, add a tilt wheel, relocate the seat base 1.5" to the rear. In the future install a set of belts with shoulder harness. (there are threads on how to do this on the 67-72 forum........it involves reinforcing the rear of the cab (upper corner ) with heavy material then installing the shoulder strap by bolting it to the cab..........

this way the truck looks more original.....JMO Kieth

Thanks guys. I was hoping to not have to move the tank...yet. Not in the budget right now. Mainly because someone welded steel over the existing wood bed many years ago. The wood is rotted away, but to pull the bed I have to cut the steel out since it covers all of the bolts holding the bed in. Frankly I'm guessing the only bolts truly holding the bed on are around the edges as the main ones that would go through the wood to the brackets on the frame are sitting loose due to rotted wood...but that is another thread topic.

So back to seats. I was thinking the top of the seat would hit the back of the cab below the glass before hitting the tank. Is that not the case? I was at a car show this weekend. Only one GMC was there representing. A lot of mid 60's Chevy's had updated seats, and still had a tank in the cab. Guess I should have asked their owner's some questions. Maybe they altered the steering as well. For some reason I did not think to check that.

Thanks. I also found this little article/promo on a search earlier today.

It has good pictures for installing this particular system. Now do I sell the seats I just bought and install a 3 point system like this as well as reupholster my bench?

So many decisions.
