I’m trying to find out what transmission I have in my 61 305 V6 with 3 on the tree. It’s the original tranny. Anyone know?? Thanks

Probably the Muncie SM318, but if you post a pic of the cover where the shifter connects I can tell you for sure.

Nope, that's a 7 bolt (looks like). I *think* that's the Saginaw SM-326, which folks liked better than the 318. If it has 9 bolts, it's a Warner Heavy duty model. I'm guessing that it was replaced at some point. i'm pretty sure the 318 was standard for that year. Congrats on the upgrade!

fetch, you are right. the sm-318/9 had a 4-bolt cover. I did this to two GMC's I have owned over the years. I like the fully syncronized transmission better than the original un-syncronized 1st gear in the 318's.
