Default Rusted out Cab mounts

Hey everyone.

I have the cab off my '63 Fenderside, and a couple of the cab mounts look pretty rusted out. I see three options. 1) leave them as is, 2) try to cut the top off and re-weld a new piece of steel and drill the new hole, 3) remove and replace.

I like remove and replace best, but the new ones will use Grade 8 bolts to install instead of original rivets. Will that be tight enough, or is the R/R idea a bad one?

Wish I could help here but I'd probably just weld up the hole to what you're looking for size-wise, grind it off to look nice, and use the grade 8's. I checked Ebay and didn't see any cab mounts.

Some people are like slinkys. Not worth much but funny as heck when pushed down stairs.

I would install new mounts while you have the body off. I believe these are the mounts you need. Bolt them on and add a stitch weld to the frame. Better than new!

Well, didn't ever think about a stitch weld. Perfect, thanks!

Those really aren't that bad.. Repairing them is cheaper than replacing them and only requires some welding-if you're handy..

A new kit for that is available and it cost about $185 for the 2 mounts and all the bushings and bolts. Personally, I would weld a 1/4 plate there with the hole already drilled. Put it in from the bottom and weld the sides then drill for holes in the factory mount from the top but not thru the new plate and rosette weld (plug weld) it from the top. Your done and not more than an hours worth of work. John
