Default timing chain part number differences

can anyone give me a breakdown of all the different timing chain and sproket replacement part numbers and interchange info? I have 1963 1/2 ton with a 305 e with a double roller chain. What are the difference between the 305 and 351 and pre 66 and post 66 years. I bought a cloyes c166 chain to go with stock gears and found it to be very tight on crank sproket. Found a dyna gear73031 3 piece set that interchanges with melling 3-170SA that goes on ok and looks the same other than where the hole for the fuel pump eccentric locater pin goes but lines up ok. Orielys listing that chain set for both early and later years but individual parts from early to late are different.

I know enough to be dangerous. Only difference I have seen is that the early chain is the type that goes on gear sprockets vs. the one you have that looks like two bicycle chains together that goes on double bicycle sprockets. I don't believe there is any difference between the 305 and 351 other than the two different type of chains. When you get to the big V6's like the 478, they had a three gear system instead of chains.

hope that helps. Others with more details (especially Bigblock V6- Pete Chronis) can give you more details.

Here is a picture of the early chain I am referring to. Listing shows 1960-1963.
