what is the canister that sits behind the head that is pressed into the block and is vented to the intake manifold ? And is it serviceable

You say the top screws off. Must have fine internal threads? this lid is only about 1/8" tall. Been soaking all night in solvent. I have learned to be patient. Should not have to use 2 pair of channel locks, don't want to screw it up
