Default 63 deluxe heater fan motor and fan discussion

First I want to say thanks to all that have been helping me on my slow going 1963 2500 project truck. Also sorry that updates from me can be sporadic, as all of you know life can get in the way of fun.

My next fun is tackling the heater blower motor and squirrel cage fan. The old motor and fan are in bad shape due to the heater core having leaked for who knows how long and the fact it was a grain truck ( the heater core and box were full of wheat/chaff/mouse/etc... ).

There is no saving the motor and the squirrel cage is not wanting to separate from the shaft, previous owner peened the end of the shaft. So I need options for replacements.

I have read quite a lot on the forum about this topic. I see mention of using newer motors and fans, 80' and 90's vintage motors and fans. Can anyone shed some light on this option?

Just checking hoping those with experience might have done likewise. Headed to the wrecking yard in coming days.

I replaced mine with an aftermarket motor and steel squirrel cage (fan) and it does the job just fine.

Cut off shaft end and chamfer/deburr. use penetrating oil/heat to free squirrel cage. It probably has a set screw or two.

Thanks for the help and encouragement.

There was no set screw(s) just press fit with a clip and then the shaft has mushroomed.

I got the squirrel cage off and found another motor from a dodge truck that fits the mounting plate and squirrel cage. drilled and tapped hub of squirrel cage for a grub screw and will get it all installed as soon as I get a new fan switch.
