New power steering
I'm installing power steering on my 61 GMC Pickup. Instructions say to use a piece of angle iron and scribe a mark on the steering shaft. I don't understand what they are talking about. I'm new to this so of you can please reply some information. Thanks

Re: New power steering
hi
having just installed power steering on my 62 GMC, you will find that using most kits, all the pictures they use for illustration purposes are from 63 and up which have the flat frame (coil springs in the front) however your truck has torsion bars and different frame, they say will work on all years, haha the holes they say are there are not, using any of the holes present will not line up, it will work, but a lot more work, I found the easiest way was to just cut the frame making it into flat type and re weld it all up after just my two cents, thanks |

Re: New power steering
Thanks 705!!! I have the gear box mounted but now my pitman arm won't reach the cross connector. It looks like it's an inch short. Don't know what to do. Everything is straight. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: New power steering
yes that is what will happen if you use the instructions for the 63 and up when mounting it on a 60 to 62, gear box position is off
you basically have to hook up the pitman arm and then position your brackets you are back to starting all over again, hopefully you just tack welded everything ? will try to find a picture that helped me a lot while doing mine again my two cents worth |

gsalwei@gmail.com.
I got the gear box on right now my pitman can't reach the drag link because the drag link is against the frame. Turning into a real pain. |

Re: New power steering
No I bought it from Brothers. I have a 305. I heard that this bracket is for 64. 60-63 have a different frame. I friend I met on here is making me a bracket.
