Wonder if there is substantial rust going on up there thinning the inside of both panels

Side drip rails maybe rusted through and flapping in the wind? I'd have a friend drive alongside me and see if there's anything flapping around. Those panels are pretty thick. I can't see them banging against each other unless they're really thinned out with rust, and I never heard of that.

If nothing's flapping outside, have them ride with you and search it out by ear while you're driving to see if it's something inside flapping that sounds like it's outside. Let us know what it is too. That's an interesting mystery!

Some people are like slinkys. Not worth much but funny as heck when pushed down stairs.

I actually had a friend that lost the outer skin of the cab top on the freeway about 5 years ago, it flew off and up like a kite.

Paulywog, you have likely done this five times already. If not, perhaps get up to banging noise speed, crank down the window, and feel the cab roof for clues. (I suppose in Maine it gets a little nippy on bare fingers this time of year, but, in Minnesota, a lot of us roll down the windows now to celebrate longer daylight and to breath fresh spring air.) Good luck with your problem solving. :-)

I just spent two years on the truck I did make sure all of the roof skin welds were intact I did quite a bit of gutter replacement so I don’t believe the skin is coming off. The roof did have dents in it that I had to heat and pull out they may be drumming at speed. I may remove the headliner and drive it and see if it is the panels. Thanks for all your input my truck’s photos are posted if interested
