Default Restore or Sell 66 1000

I recently purchased a 1966 GMC fleet-side longbed with original 351 V6 and turbo-automatic transmission and factory bucket seats. A GMC dealer was in the process of restoring it but lost his dealership before it was completed. He had the engine overhauled and the truck was partially disassembled (front fenders, radiator support, bed, etc., and has been in storage several years. The cab, doors hood, and front fenders have been repainted to the original red color. I purchased the truck with several NOS parts to include body trim, GM replacement wood for bed, chrome bumpers, GMC grill emblems, shocks, etc. I have the paint removed from the bed parts and am in the process of getting the bed primed and the other parts powder coated black. The bottom line is that I am trying to decide if I want to take the plunge and complete the restoration or sell it, as is. Can anyone tell me how rare this particular truck is and how valuable it would be if restored? Thanks.

Pics would help.

The rule of thumb is if you love it, restore it. If not, put it back together and put it on Ebay. You'll get 1600-5500 out of it depending on what it's got going for it. That 351 is GREAT especially since it's semi-newly rebuilt.

But yeah, if you don't love her send her to someone that will. And not some chop-happy kid either. She deserves better than that.

Thanks. I can't say that I am in love with this particular model, but do love doing restoration on vintage trucks. If I can't find a more favorable vehicle (55-59 Chevy), I will take it back to original. Thanks for replying.

I had a great 99% solid original 59 Chevy Apache I could have traded you for this truck but just sold it this morning. I do still have a rare big window short bed 59 Apache w/ rare 700 paint code and factory V8 frame, but no engine or trans which could be right up your alley if you are like most people and want an LS motor instead of the old original drivetrain anyway. In any case, I would like to see pictures of everything you have and the trucks present state to see if I would be interested in your truck. PM me when you get time

Yeah, the only "more favorable" vehicle than a 60-66 GMC is TWO 60-66 GMCs.

Sell it.
