Default 1966 GMC Longbed Stepside

I found a 1966 GMC longbed stepside with 22,000 original miles on it and am seriously considering buying it. The truck has a very straight body, an in-line 6, 3 speed on the column and runs and drives and has minimal rust issues. I negotiated a price of $2000 dollars. I have no idea if I'm overpaying or if its a fair price. If anybody would care to give their opinion I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome. No pictures as I found it on my way back home to Florida passing through Georgia sitting in an old gentleman's driveway and only stopped for a quick look. based upon the little research that I have done, I would estimate it as a "high" 4 on the websites classification scale which puts it at roughly $1975. I really love the style as it just exemplifies rural america. I look forward to interacting with individuals with similar interests (the love of old trucks). I'm going back that way (to Georgia) in a few days to finalize the transaction and guess that I just wanted some sort of confirmation that I am not grossly overpaying.

Sounds pretty good to me without seeing it. I had to pay that much for the Rust bucket you see in my sig block below. It has a solid 305, but the body still needs some help.

I paid $2500 for my very patina'd '66 long fleetside. I think your in the right price range considering it runs and drives.

Congratulations!

Did you buy the truck?

My advice would be to buy a truck with the least amount of cab rust you can afford. These projects are soooo much easier when you aren't dealing with cab cancer.

The truck would be a " Must Buy" if it had a 351 V-6, even a 305. But with an in-line 6, better make sure it's not the 230 cid. The 292 would be preferred but 250 cid is more likely installed. I drove a lot of in-line 6 GM trucks driving pkg car for UPS. Our terminal Up-sized engines in everything they could. 230's replaced with 250's, and 250's replaced with 292's. Then one day I had a pkg car with a script FORD on the horn button. That truck ran up the hills on my delivery route like a well tuned V-8! The night shop mechanic said it was a 300-6. Year or so later I bought my '78 used F-150 4wd w/300-6 & 4-spd. And to think I almost ordered out a brand new '78 1/2 ton GMC w/292-4spd.
