Carb rebuild
I spent 2+ days getting fuel pump and flow issues resolved with no problems until i went out saturday and started engine to find a beautiful fountain out of the rocker arm area on carb.
Anyone point me in direction of a rebuild kit for the Stromberg WW? |

Mike's carburetor shop has the kit. I bought one.
Sure sounds like overpressure? Not sure what rocker arm is, accelerator pump rod hole? Not sure when "fountain" occurs. All the time, during throttle pressure or ? Flows. leaks, squirts??? You are using M20021, 4.5 PSI. Yes? Is there anything you forgot to say regarding pump/carb? Have you done ANYTHING to the carb? taken it apart or ??? Yes, accelerator pump rod hole. 'rocker arm thingy' was best i could describe it...
Gas flows out at idle after pushing in choke lever. nothing done to carb, new pump is m20021. psi: i have no clue... |

I have never understood how that hole is supposed to be sealed. Maybe as the "rubber" skirt fails, on the accelerator pump, it allows that leak. There is a splash guard on that rod on the inside. Anyway, the kits are available as you can see. Go for it. Mike's Carburetor Shop has nice videos on rebuilding the WW.

motor is running a bit rough, nothing terrible. sounds good after i let idle for 2hrs. then i started leaking so shut it down. it was dry for the 2 hrs though,... i attribute to 7yrs of sitting but that may be wishful thinking.
A rebuild wouldn't be a bad thing to do anyway... |

There's a full writeup with pics in my Cecilia thread of how to rebuild it (see my signature). There's a leather piece in there that cracks and gets worn out with age, or shrinks if it's dry too long.
You could also have a bad needle that isn't closing the gas line with the float. Those needles are just rubber so they wear too. There's a method of adjusting the float arm with a measuring tool, but I don't remember the particulars on it. I'd see if it works with a new needle and leather bit first. Oh, and remember when you're torquing things back down that it's all aluminum so it'll strip out if you sneeze on it hard.

The accelerator pump lever pivot screw is left hand thread, the only screw on the whole truck that is that way. Rotate it clockwise to loosen. Good luck.

i have built many WW stromberg carbs over the years, and the photos that fetch has posted is the best pictorial I have seen on the basic repair of the WW stromberg. The one thing he did not do was remove the main jets because it takes a special tool to remove them w/o distorting the body of the jet. My recomendation is to soak the parts in a top quality cleaner like berryman's b-12 carb dip. Napa also has a 1 gal bucket that comes with a basket that does a great job. There p/n is 6402 Mac's. I hope i have been of some assistance in this endeavor.
