62 k build
Well things are starting to come together quite nicely. Got the cab back on the frame so let the build begin. Shouldn't be long now. Cut out the dash backing from some aluminum plate, I will paint it the same silver as my dash. The venerable 305 newly freshened up will go in this week. Exhaust will be built by this weekend........ I can't wait to hear it purring. Custom flatbed is being fabricated as well

That's gonna be a sweet ride Hobie! Like what you did for the gauge panel.

The wiring always looks intimidating but it's really pretty straight forward once you get started. I am taking my time and properly looming everything and soldering all connectors. My buddies say i'm nuts to just crimp it all but that's just not my style. My pops always taught me to do things the hard way lol But I will only be doing it once ! I learned to drive in a truck just like this one on the farm back east so it's a pretty special build, looking forward to teaching my boy on my lap here soon. |

Re: 62 k build
Awesome! Kids on a build make for great fun! One of the electricians on here said he solders his connections then puts a drop of glue gun glue on it before heat shrinking it, which melts the glue again and forms a super seal. I thought it sounded pretty good but I'm not sure if I'll try that. Are corroded connections really that big of a problem?

Re: 62 k build
I have a 63 K truck. Do you have PS and Power brakes? If you are using the 305 V6 did you convert it to manual linkage on the clutch? on the PS did you find brackets and pulleys for the V6 or do something else?

Re: 62 k build
Yes power steering and brakes. Made brackets for the pump on the 305. Made pulleys as well. Set it up to add a/c in the future if I want it too. Doubt that will happen though. Removed mechanical fuel pump for a little more room up front. I still have the slave on the clutch as well.

Re: 62 k build
Id really like to read how you set up PBs. I read a thread on it somewhere and seems like I remember you need a dual reservoir master clyinder for the brakes (maybe that was just if disc brakes were being installed up front) and "proportioning valve". I thought you had to change out the clutch to a mechanical linkage

Re: 62 k build
I have discs in the front from Blackbird Customs. I have a power set-up for the brakes with the proportioning valve and retain the hydraulic clutch. You can buy the complete setup from Classic Performance Products I believe, I made my own but it's the same exact thing.

Re: 62 k build
Hi Hobie
Good pics of your truck build, thanks....Im working again on my 63-K1000 and interested to know how the the brake booster setup works on yr truck and still have pressure feed for the clutch slave cylinder? All the brake booster kits Ive seen seem to be for non hydraulic clutches...Any info would be greatly appreciated! Rob in Vermont |
